Project Scope: Improve management of asset in Technip’s Offshore Operations Support (OOS)
Business Unit, by reducing operational cost and enhancing efficiency. This includes the global vessel
and ROV fleet, mobile pipe-lay and diving equipment, and new built vessels spread over Technip’s
different divisions in 4 continents.
Position: Business improvement Consultant and Project manager with single accountability for project,
reporting to Offshore Assets Division Vice President till end of 2007 and currently reporting to steering
committee consisting of: Asset Delivery Vice President, IT Vice President, and Technical Solutions
Director.
Target: Provision of solutions bearing minimum of £1M saving and a stretched target of £8M reduction
in expenditure. Target was exceeded - cost-benefit analysis successfully demonstrated that designed
solution will lead to over £10 million in savings in one year – consequently I was awarded bonus.
Main Responsibilities:
• Define, analyse and measure improvement opportunities in terms of: Expenditure, Business
Processes, Business Tools, and organisation.


• Put the global internal team and external companies in place to implement the improvement
project.
• Set appropriate controls in place to measure and maintain achieved improvements.
Approach:
• Analysed current company expenditure, identifying inefficiencies in the system and prioritised areas
for improvement based on maximum cost reduction.
• Developed detailed action plan, consisting of the following parallel solutions:
o Integrating and automating procurement, inventory and maintenance into one new
enterprise asset management system.
o Using optimised supply chain and asset management processes. Developed appropriate
processes: Simplified procurement and logistics processes, drew up new procurement
controls, added in house condition based and preventative maintenance processes to
general planned maintenance routines and omitted rework.
o Execution of an inventory control on Technip’s fleet and equipment bases to identify
redundant, duplicates, and unclassified stock and to gather essential missing information.
o Extensive data cleansing operation on all procurement, maintenance and inventory data
stored in different existing systems. Provision of unique stock numbers to ensure stock
visibility across the fleet and linking appropriate data from different systems.
o Set up KPI’s and bonus metrics for masters and chief engineers for purchase planning,
order consolidation and use of negotiated prices. Trained personnel to produce these KPI’s.
o Automating receipt and issuing of stock by use of barcode scanners; led new developments
to ERP system to accommodate the new method.
• Successful participation process (workshops, presentations, share fares, etc) was held to engage
stakeholders. This included a company wide representation to ensure broad organisational support
for change.
• Sourced suppliers, contractors, and different potential products
• Tendered for different enterprise asset management systems, evaluated tender, examined different
systems.
• On the corporate level, got agreement for my recommended choice of product, vendors, and
contractors. Got endorsement for the £3M project budget.
• Prepared project execution plan; budget, schedule, resource, risk assessment
• Mobilised project: Preparing, reviewing and getting signed contracts with different sub-contractors,
Recruiting and building up implementation team, engaging all stakeholders…

Equipment - reporting to the Business Services Manager. I also developed a proposal of new
