Career
July/August 2003: One month interim assignment with a government agency. The objective was to handle a potentially difficult press story, write the OJEC tender specifications for a corporate rebranding project and manage the initial stages of a £16 million tender evaluation.

Nov 2002 to July 2003: Completing work on “Eliza Asbury” published June 20th Price £8.95. ISBN 1 858582350. The launch generated publicity in all regional print media, and on regional TV and BBC Radio 4 “Today Programme”

Jan 2000 to Nov 2002: Director of Communications for the Birmingham Heartlands and Solihull NHS Trust (Teaching). Reporting to the Chief Executive, responsible for 15 staff, and budget of £500,000. This job was originally on an interim basis but extended.

July 1994 to July 1999: Member of the European Parliament based in Brussels and Strasbourg. Served on Budgets, Regional, and Agricultural Committees. Member of standing delegations to African, Pacific and Caribbean/EU Parliamentary Assembly; Slovak National Council and Israeli Knesset.

Jan 1989 to Sept 1994: Public Relations and Communications Consultant using all available skills to provide services for a wide range of clients on a freelance, project or interim management basis.

Sept 1984 to Jan 1989: Public Relations Officer for the National Children’s Home. Launched the acclaimed “Children in Danger” Campaign.

Nov 1981 to Aug 1984: Public Relations Director Hilton Advertising (Midlands). Mainly supporting retail advertising and direct marketing programmes.

From university to 1981: Research, Public Relations and Information posts with three local authorities – East Sussex CC; Birmingham City Council Social Services Department and Walsall MBC.
