CORPORATE CAREER

Jan’04 –May’07 Senior Director Philips Domestic Appliances & Personal Care Division,
BU Consumer Health & Wellness (CHW) (Location: Amersfoort, The Netherlands)

Responsible for various projects in the context of the development of a new
Consumer Business Unit in the Health & Wellness arena.

Activities were targeted at identification and assessment of potential acquisition- or joint venture candidates on basis of broad market & -trend analysis.
Additionally, my personal quest was to add a project with a focus on special consumer groups, on top of the traditional product and technology focus. My special project focusing on the senior consumer resulted in a participation strategy for which the acquisition of Lifeline Systems in the USA (2006) was the first step.


Jan’01-Dec’03 Marketing & Sales Director Europe (Location: Eindhoven,The Netherlands)
Business: Recordable Media (CD & DVD) with Philips Consumer Electronics

Responsible for the turnover and profitability of the Media activity in Europe. This organization was operating separately from the traditional Region-National Sales Organization structure. The assignment I received in 2000 was to create a profitable, retail-focused sales organization: 19 pers.

Achievements:
In a market with ³ 10% p.m. price erosion:
- Turnover growth: from € 55 million in 2000 to € 73 million in 2003.
- Profitability: from loss-making to a level of close to 7% net profit
- Market leader in DVD media from a true underdog position in the media market
- International contracts with large retailers like Carrefour, DACEM, DSG



Aug’99 – Dec’00 Sales & Marketing Director South Europe (Location: Paris, France)
Business: Primary Batteries with Philips Lighting

Responsible for completion of the disentanglement of the battery activity from the Consumer Lamps sales organization and setting up a dedicated sales organization in the region to prepare for the activity to be sold. Next to disentanglement, the main challenge was growing market share and profitability of the battery activity in the region (France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and Turkey).

Achievements:
- Increased sales and profitability
- International contract with Carrefour
- Improved rotation within the existing client base through better customer focus, shelve management and trade marketing programs.
- New distribution channels, both through distributors and direct.


Feb’97 – Aug’99 Senior Product Manager with Philips International (Location: Hong Kong)
Division for Small Domestic Appliances and Personal Care (DAP)

Responsible for new business creation in the field of Home Health Care.

Achievements
- Co-development of a completely new product concept with a Japanese company.
- Sourcing of a small range of existing product concepts, tuned to Philips quality and function specifications and Philips design

Activity stopped due to change of company focus, but established a solid partnership with Japanese and Chinese suppliers for product co-creation (activity resumed in 2004)


Feb’94-Jan’97 Marketing Manager, Philips Aparatos Domesticos y Personales (Madrid, Spain)
Business: Personal Care Products

Responsible for the turnover and profitability of a variety of personal care products, marketed by the National Sales Organization in Spain.

Achievements:
- increase in profitability of all product categories through range management and consistent pricing strategy and GFK hitlist leadership in haircare
- increase market share electric epilators from 21% to 35%


1993 (11 months) Special assignment in Türk Philips Ticaret (Location: Istanbul, Turkey)
Business: Household and Personal Care Appliances (DAP)

Responsible for the development and implementation of a marketing- and organizational plan for a broad DAP sales activity in Turkey, separating it from Consumer Electronics. Coordinated in this context the development of a separate unit with dedicated marketing and sales, as well as KIT-assembly for some of the products.


1990-1992: Product Manager electric epilators, with Philips Domestic Appliances & Personal Care (DAP) (Location: Groningen, The Netherlands)

Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the development and international marketing of a set of products with an
entirely new product function, aiming at a new market.
- The products had to be developed in slightly more than a year, as opposed to an average development time of four years, so an entirely different way of working was required.
- Safeguard the consumer orientation during the technical development process
- Trouble shooting in countries having marketing problems with the introduction of the new epilators

Contacts:
Intensive contact with: key-countries, market researchers, technical development centers, designers, production centers and advertising experts.

Achievements:
- Extremely challenging development timing realized, setting new standards for the division
- Market leadership in 3 years after launch in several countries.


1987 – 1989 Junior Product Manager Ladyshave, with Philips DAP (Location: Groningen, The Netherlands)

Responsibilities:
Responsible for the new Ladyshave product range, which was the first Wet & Dry shaver range ever..

Tasks:
- To initiate and coordinate the development of new products for the global market place.
- To formulate the international product- and marketing strategy in terms of product policy, pricing, distribution strategy, communication strategy (both AtL & BtL).

Contacts:
To successfully fulfill the tasks and responsibilities, intensive contact was required with: key-countries, market researchers, technical development, designers, external color specialists, the production center and advertising experts.

Achievements:
- Introduction of the first Wet & Dry Ladyshave Range; being also the first ever range with new finishings and special colors.
- This range was the starting point of new developments in colours and materials within Philips.

Oct’86 – Apr’87 Curaçao, Dutch Caribbean
Conducted a research to define the best options to improve the investment climate of the islands Curaçao and Aruba.
