employer : BPi - Business Process Innovation
role : Management Consultant
Background : Key player in innovation of processes and strategy

Role : Management Consultant
Background : support all disciplines of business for banking and insur-ance companies that covers the IT-area of those businesses.

The analyses included impact on the organisation, law issues required changes to procedures and systems.

Background : As a result of new legislation (the SUWI-law) a large program of changes has been identified for the labour- and social offices in the Netherlands.
The old labour offices have been changed to the CWI, and besides the role of finding work for unemployed, the CWI offices have also obtained responsibility for the start-up of social security payments.
The website Werk.nl was devised to bring people that are looking for a (new) job and employers with vacan-cies together in a new and effective way.

Activities : Performing projectmanagement for building and im-plementing Werk.nl, the website that matches jobeseek-ers with vacancies.

With the personal data of over 100.000 jobseekers and the data of 60.000 vacancies, it is only fair to call the implementation of Werk.nl riskfull and a project that needed to be handled with extreme care.

My role was:
• To define and communicate functional specifi-cations;
• To grant the work to subcontractors and main-tain control over progress and deathliness;
• To have the delivered software tested;
• To have audits performed on quality, seurity and availability of the system components

• Coordinating required changes from all de-partments and setting up specifications for tho-se changes.

Results : End result is the most successful website of the Nether-lands: Werk.nl; with around 100.000 visitors daily. While keeping the project within budget.

To be able to guarantee the CWI-management a successful launch of the website is considered the biggest success.

Rick was hired to evaluate the feasibility of that plan and to look for possible alternatives for the company.

Activities : Changing a Dot.com company on the edge of bank-ruptcy to a successful facilitator in the television pro-duction area.

After thorough investigation I saw distinct possibilities for the company rendering streaming media services to the television program production company.

After presentation of the plan to the shareholders I was asked to:
• Change the organisation to be ready for the new task;
• Deliver proof-of-concept to the shareholders;
• Develop a new business plan;
• To coach the staff during the change
• To help acquire the first customers for the new services.

Background : In 1997, the Rijnhaave group was sold to British Telecom that brought the new subsidiary under control of Syntegra, the former IT-department of British Telecom.
In the Netherlands the Rijnhaave group, still consisting of nine separate companies had to unite to one, and conform to the Eng-lish owner who was just reorganising herself at that time.

Activities : The management of a business unit of about 220 people, 70% of which were hired out on a contract and 30% was working in house on fixed price projects.
(Re-)motivation of staff and putting a hold on the outflow of personnel were the biggest challenges.
Within this role, I was also in charge of the CSN-project (Compaq Service Network) for Compaq EMEA, a system based on Internet that took the Compaq service level to a new dimen-sion.
Results : Three years in a row of on-target growth, both in personnel, revenue and profit and twelve large, successfully delivered, projects amongst which:

Activities : Deliver a strategic advice about the use of E-Commerce within Station12.
Perform interviews with unit managers to come to an advice on how to use E-commerce in a strategic way to increase revenue and/or save costs.

Results : A report with recommendations on both direction and approach.

Period : May 1998 – June 1999
Customer : Syntegra, Zoetermeer
Role : Head of the Project office, as an extra role beside of Business Unit Manager.
Background : Syntegra is a full-service IT company, delivering hardware, software training, installation and opera-tional services to its customers.
To integrate all these services into one consistent offer to a customer tended to be a problem. In order to move toward the bigger companies and government, a project office was needed.

Activities : Setting up a company wide project office, capable of delivering offerings on large tenders within a week and controlling the projects afterwards.

Results : An up-and-running office with the proper support of all business units to perform.

Period : September 1998 – mei 1999

Activities : Leading a business process re-engineering project for the administration of the hiring out (about 900 people) and the fixed-price projects.
The current administrations were compared and bottle-necks an problem area’s identified. A new administra-tion process was designed that would change quit a lot in the way people were working. The team needed to find enough support for the plan. After getting the consensus needed the requirements and processes were specified. Then these specifications were mapped to the functionality of Oracle Apps.
The system was in production by April 2000.

Results : A complete redesign of Syntegra’s business processes and the specifications for installing/changing Oracle Apps.

Period : Mei 1996 – Augustus 1997
Employer : Internet Laboratories, Amsterdam
Role : Director

These companies were Elektriciteitsbedrijf Zuid Holland, Cartera Finance partners and Cobra Investment AG.
They asked a headhunter to find them the most suitable director and I was then asked to head this new company.

Activities : Starting up an new organisation which would position itself right in between the advertisement agencies and the ICT companies. Giving advise about using Internet, Intranet en Extranet to im-prove business.
Iorganised the company in analogy with movie production companies: Internet Laboratories only employed producers that, to the specs of a production, would bring a competent team to-gether, consisting of specialist, both hired from companies or freelance.

The notible orders in the first year were:

The university of Amsterdam had already put up an office that was scanning the internet for medcal infor-mation, trying to bring order into it and then offer it to the doctors.
Activities : Professionalise the services around medical informa-tion on Internet into a portal-like website to which medical professionals could subscribe.
