Work Experience

July 2004 – Now Management BVBA (independent)

Through Management BVBA I offer ICT related consulting and management services to external companies.
Till September 2005 I mainly operated through a System Integrator. I assisted my customer in the transition towards a service oriented organisation where the foundation was created for an ITIL-inspired operation. In addition I offered consultancy to their customers in the formalisation, optimisation and automation of their (internal and external) ICT support structure. The principles of ITIL, SLA/SLM and Cobit where used within these projects.

April 2002 – June 2004: Board Member Xtenso NV (till November 2003) and
Business Unit Manager ICT Solutions Xtenso NV

After a Management Buy Out from Triple P Belgium NV, Xtenso continued the core activities of the former company, maintaining its existing staff. Through some reorganisation and financial optimisation, Xtenso succeeded reducing the operational cost. Due to the name change, Xtenso ICT Solutions saw a reduction of its existing customer base. Thanks to the focus on the service aspects, ICT Solutions succeeded maintaining its revenue by service up selling in its remaining customer base. During the same period, small-budget marketing activities were initiated aiming at the branding of Xtenso ICT Solutions. Major new projects could not be recorded.

As Business Unit Manager I carry the P&L responsibility of the ICT Solutions organisation. Within this responsibility, I set out the strategy and coach a team of 21 people in order to achieve the targets. With the team we cover all the sales and project management activities, the technical consulting, the installation and support functions, the helpdesk, the logistics and the contract management and the internal ICT. The flat organisational structure made the ICT Solutions business unit a very flexible organisation capable of reacting on any customer request.
Where the sales staff (3 people) focus on an internal growth of the business (through direct prospecting and commercial activities), I strongly believe in growth through partnerships for the Xtenso ICT Solutions organisation. Through the extension of a professional network, Xtenso performed project management, installations and maintenance activities for third parties in the Benelux.

Feb 1999 – Mar 2002: Business Unit Manager ICT Solutions Triple P Belgium

When I joined Triple P Belgium in 1999, The ICT Solutions business unit had to be created. The existing support organisation was mainly focussed on providing hardware assistance for the existing applications business unit. By creating ICT Solutions, Triple P wanted to create an independent business unit capable of creating a proper identity, customer base, strategy and sales channel. My role as a business unit manager consisted in the development of the business strategy, reorganise the technical staff based on the strategy and to start market development. As the strategy matured and the personnel got acquainted with their new roles and responsibilities, some smaller projects were achieved. In early 2000, the development of the pan-European data centre for Profil ARBED Distribution, today part of the Arcelor Group, was signed as a first major project.

End 2001, Triple P Management, the holding above Triple P Belgium NV, decided to focus on its activities in its Dutch home market. Therefore it was decided to stop the Belgium operation.

Triple P Belgium’s General Manager and the existing Business Unit Managers (3) decided to continue the operations and proposed a Management Buy Out, creating Xtenso NV.

Apr 94 – Jan 99: BeLux Country Sales Manager Madge Networks BV

Madge Networks, a leading Token Ring vendor, extended its BeNeLux operation by setting up a Belgium sales operation. Starting as a technical consultant, I quickly became sales manager for the networking products. Seen the indirect sales strategy of Madge Networks, it was my responsibility to create a focussed sales channel and to extend the channel where possible. Assisted by an Internal Sales I organised sales and technical training to the channel partners, provided sales assistance and guaranteed technical assistance during implementation projects. The strong focus on a direct end-user approach (Direct prospecting – indirect sales) combined with technical consulting towards the end user, the business grew rapidly. Therefore, we were forced to add a proper distribution channel, providing local logistics to the channel partners. As a country sales manager it was my role to maintain proper relationships with and manage the distribution and the channel partners.

During the same period I was active in education and gave regular courses in VIK (Geel) and EPHEC (Brussels).

Feb 94 – Apr 94: Support Engineer (ad interim) Xircom International

In between jobs, I accepted a temporary function as a Support Engineer, providing me a first professional experience with a service organisation. Within the support team, we were providing telephonic assistance to end users worldwide (except the Americas) experiencing problems in using the Xircom products.

May 90 – Nov 93: International Network Consultant Upjohn NV

As a team member of the Regional IT Coordination team, I was responsible for testing new networking products, defining the European standards in networking technology, imposing these standards throughout the European subsidiaries and the training of the local staff. This function demanded extensive travel, sometimes exceeding 70% during several months.
Due to a worldwide reorganisation, the regional coordination team was dismantled. I did not accept a function as LAN administrator and was therefore laid off.

Jun 89 – May 90: Consultant & Analyst Kalasys SA

Kalasys SA, a small sized local software house, provides turnkey solutions to the SMB market. As a consultant/analyst, I was responsible for the functional analysis, the programming, the implementation, the training and the follow up of multiple projects.

Jun 88 – May 89: Military Service

Jan 88 – May 88: Project Manager Nederlandse Stikstof Maatschappij
Norsk Hydro Group
(Sluiskil – Netherlands)

As a project manager I was responsible for the development of the middleware proving an application gateway between two ERP environments (Wang VS and IBM Mainframe).

Jan 87 – Dec 87: ICT Coordinator Norsk Hydro Asote
(Paris – France)

As an expatriate, I was responsible for the set-up of the ICT environment for the newly created Paris sales office. During a 12 month period, the various systems had to be set-up and a local ICT operations staff created and trained. In total a crew of 3 operators was created and the responsibility handed over to the local Financial Director.
