Supply Chain Manager

The role heads up the company's supply chain function encompassing both strategic and operational responsibility, from determination of production requirements from the Korean factories, through to U.K dealer delivery.

UK storage and preparation of product is handled through an in-house distribution and producy enhancement centre of 35 acres operating with a staff of 45. In addition a head office logistics function of 10 staff manage inventory and provide supply support to a dealer network. In scale the role is responsible for an annual operating budget in excess of £ 18m. and a typical pipeline inventory of £ 100 m.

Key Achievements

Formulated and implemented a new supply chain strategy with customer service being the key focus based on a "pull" strategy rather than the historical "ram and jam" approach.
Re-shaped the inventory to dramatically reduce the risk of stock obsolescence and reductions in product quality due to ageing.
The leadership of continuous improvement processes focused on improving operational efficiency and reducing costs.



UNIPART GROUP OF COMPANIES 1996 – 1999

Commercial Manager – Unipart European After-market division 1997 – 1999

Operationally responsible for a newly created Business Unit focused upon developing opportunities within the crash repair sector with particular emphasis on developing after-market parts solutions for insurance companies. The role was accountable for a small team, developing the sourcing and supply chain infrastructure of a range of products from global sources and marketing an after-market crash repair proposition through a Distributor sales network.

Initially responsible for purchasing and logistics the role expanded through promotion and business growth opportunities to encompass a wider general management position with additional responsibilities for the sales, network development and insurer relationships.

Key Achievements

Lead the achievement of a 50% year on year revenue growth
Played a major role in an acquisition of a sector competitor including contract negotiation, pre-acquisition planning and post-acquisition operational responsibility.
Implemented several insurer mandated program's into approved bodyshop networks.


Purchasing & Logistics Manager – Unipart European After-market division 1996 - 1997

Responsible with 2 colleagues for the purchasing and logistics functions of independent after-market division, Unipart International Jointly accountable through a large team of specialists for an annual purchasing level of £100m from global sources., the control of inventory levels of £25m.and the expenditure of on physical logistics.

Also personally responsible for the development of the relationship with the logistics providers, a sister division within Unipart Group. Collaborative projects identified savings in logistics costs of over £ 1m. per year..


W H SMITH GROUP LTD 1992-1996

Group Purchasing Manager - W.H. Smith Group 1995 - 1996

Working on a secondment basis as Supply Chain Integration Manager at Niceday Business Supplies Ltd. Responsible for the supply chain integration of 5 trading divisions, identifying the lowest cost to serve supply channels and, where applicable, negotiating improved purchasing terms for centralised delivery.

Key Achievements

Identification and negotiation of annualised supply chain cost savings of £ 0.6 m.

Logistics Planning Manager - Do It All Ltd. 1994 - 1995

Responsible for the coordination of Supply Chain function for an out-of-town retailer of 200 stores with a £400m. turnover.

Key Achievements

Re-negotiated the majority of purchasing terms for centralised delivery, improving terms by £ 10.2 m.
Key member of a senior management team that implemented a 300,000 Sq. Ft. green field Distribution facility.
Initiated and implemented an ex-works collection system contributing £0.3m per year.

Responsible for the inventory control and supply chain development within a large business unit.

Key Achievements

Improved on-shelf product availability by 17% and developed processes that reduced obsolete stock by 65%.

Responsibility for the implementation of dedicated warehouse and transport contracts. This covered from the receipt of a Client contract to the contracted business being operational and performing at the required service level and profitability. This leading a multi-disciplined team of specialists, with responsibility for the co-ordination and development of project plans, with budgetary control for start-up costs.
