TOWER TECHNOLOGY LIMITED UK 1999 – 2001
(A leading supplier of document management, image processing, repository management, workflow products and services. On commencement - £10M turnover & 65 staff; on departure - £18M turnover & 105 staff).

Approached as Organisational Change Adviser to the European operations and relocated from Australia.
· Examined organisational challenges arising from rapid growth, particularly in product/project implementation and effective integration of sales and delivery activities
· Subsequently my successful report providing comprehensive recommendations enabled a strategic operational review at board-level and my appointment to build a Professional Services group to support improved business services.
Manager, Professional Services 23 months
· Established a multi-sited Professional Services group based in Slough, Leeds, Bristol and Paris. Turnover grew from c£1M to c£5 million, resources from 12 to 40 and profit from negative to margin of +25%.
· Major company growth occurred in bespoke systems development, consultancy, and effective project management and delivery. Refocusing the team, mentoring and supporting senior staff in project management, and resourcing with skillsets more appropriate for business solution delivery, created outstanding achievements.
· Working with the in-house teams, a successful solution deployment and project management methodology was created and implemented.
· Responsible for strategic planning and organisational change reviews and assisted with the implementation of my recommendations.
· As the final stage of my 2-year contract, led an internal search for and transition to my successor.
CONVERGENT TECHNOLOGIES GROUP PTY LTD (1995-99)
As a partner in an Interim management and technology Consultancy firm providing consulting and management services to a wide range of public and private sector clients in Australia. Assignments included:

Q-Build 1999
(Queensland Government agency providing majority of construction and maintenance services for state government buildings and property. Around $1 Billion turnover).
Project Adviser and Risk Manager 6 months
The QUANTUM Project was a $20-30M dollar replacement of legacy systems with Mincom MIMS packages and custom-built systems. Adviser on risk, quality and project management to the customer and supplier project managers, and sat on the Project Board.
Queensland Spatial Information Infrastructure Council (QSIIC) 1998 – 1999
(Government cross-agency and private sector council working on strategy for use of spatial information)
Industry Association representative; Projects Adviser 18 months
Appointed to QSIIC’s Infrastructure Committee and to the Project Board of a pilot project to provide private sector input and ensure real progress was made.
CITEC (various assignments) 1995 to 1999
(Largest Queensland systems integrator – approx. $400M turnover in 1999, 500 staff)
Project and Risk Adviser 6 months
Appointed to Project Board overseeing the implementation of the AURION HR/Payroll package into CITEC, and two other government agencies as a result of the government’s HRMS system being inoperative from July 1999. Mentored project manager and applied risk management principles.
Project and Risk Adviser 18 months
Appointed to the Project Board for the redevelopment of CITEC’s market-leading Public Access System as Project Adviser to the Project Sponsor and the Project Director, and was heavily involved in strategic planning, risk management and vendor management activities.
Project Manager/Director 8 months
Successfully project-managed a $600K software development project, conducted for CITEC’s client, the Queensland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), delivering a generic access point, security and billing front-end to government-wide spatial information systems.
Lead Consultant 3 months
Assisted the CITEC Directorate in determining CITEC’s strategy for the Year 2000 issue. Surveyed the vendor marketplace to determine what products, services and methods were of relevance to the Queensland government market and to identify potential business partners for CITEC. CITEC then established a Year 2000-specific business line.

Involved in $25-30 million project, which involved the statewide implementation of payroll, human resource and rostering systems over some 2 to 3 years. Provided advice to the client Project Director on strategic issues regarding the project; carried out audits on, and provided advice and assistance in the evolution of the various practices, processes and procedures used on the project; reviewed key, strategic deliverables; participated in key milestone reviews; and chaired the Risk and Quality Management Committees.

Led a Risk Management workshop for Lend Lease, and a very large client of theirs, the Queensland Education Department leading to the preparation of a set of risk treatment strategies for those risks identified as being non-trivial. Subsequently asked to develop the Risk Management section of Lend Lease’s corporate Project Implementation Manual.

As part of a CTG team, carried out an assignment for the IPB and the Public Sector Management Commission to identify and develop strategies to bring information and corporate planning processes into alignment within and across government departments.
CITEC (continuation of contract won by previous company) 1995 – 1997
Systems Integration Consultant 18 months
Mentor to and facilitator of a team of senior CITEC staff in the selection and implementation of a Systems Integration (SI) strategy and methodology. Following completion of the selection process, then retained to provide management and guidance to a number of pilot implementation projects, to advise on associated organisational change matters, and to identify other corporate-wide systems needed to support the initiatives.

Reviewed a submission by one of the Department’s Branches for capital funding for a large computer replacement project and the subsequent tendering process, to ensure that all processes had been carried out in a proper manner. A Report was presented supporting the need for the upgrade and approving the tendering process, with recommendations for process improvements.

In a line management position, responsible for general management of the software development and support group, with the specific objective to facilitate organisational change and provide management training and mentoring to senior staff to better handle projects. In the six months there, staff numbers more than doubled, from 34 to 75, and improved operational interfaces to internal and external customers and improved work processes were implemented.
