• Led the implementation of an integrated ERP application joining the team late in the process to bring a failing project back on track and achieve the planned implementation date and goals. This involved the creation of a delivery team, Technical and Business, from both internal and third party resources. Establishing SLAs between DARA and CGEY and internal SLAs between the different functions within the organisation.
• Formed a Supply Chain organisation within a MOD operation in the transition from being fully funded to self supporting Traded Fund Organisation
• Introduced an inventory policy to an organisation that traditionally has been supplied with aircraft spares FOC by the customer and hence had no motivation to control or manage inventory. In the 10 months I have operated with this organisation inventory has been reduced by 25%, and accuracy increased to 96%
• Consolidated 4 warehouse operations into one reducing cost and improving service

Operations Director/Supply Chain Manager (Interim) Components Division, DARA Perth
• The establishment of a Supply Chain Organisation in Perth and the facilitation of a similar Operation in Chester
• The implementation of Baan ERP, leading on the Manufacturing and Logistics roles. This involved the creation of a Delivery team from both internal and third party resources and the development of SLAs between Dara and CGEY and between functions within the Business. A Help desk was also established and subsequently relocated to South Wales to serve as a Dara wide facility for all IT matters.
• The transformation of a MOD Trading Fund Company into a 'for profit' organisation
• The establishment of Professional Inventory Management policies in an Operation where raw materials (£100m per year) had previously been supplied FOC by the customer.

• Implemented Baan ERP in a lights out 24/7 operation
• Developed and implemented a revised business strategy, majoring in certain markets, withdrawing from others whilst developing new products to meet customer needs
• Reduced operating costs by £1m+ over two years
• Took direct responsibility for all International bids
• Turned round business into profit during first half of 2000, making it the only profitable energy cables business in the UK Group
• Further significant growth in turnover and profit forecast

January 1996-May 1998 – BICC Construction Cables
Head of Supply Chain and Logistics
Restructured a B2B telesales, warehouse and distribution operation from 14 sites to 1 telesales and two warehouses, significantly reducing operating costs and improving efficiencies.

Responsible for a £150m B2B cable trading company. Activities included electric cable and accessory purchasing, call centre and e-business, warehousing and next day distribution, stock management, factory loading and sales forecasting. The Business served a demanding electrical wholesaler, OEM, Industrial and Construction market.

• Reduced warehouse and sales outlets from 14 to 2
• Introduced and maintained stock service levels at or above 95%.
• Reorganised primary and outsourced part of secondary transport taking 35% out of cost base.
• Scaled down own vehicle fleet whilst maintaining next day deliveries.
• Stabilised factory load through improved sales forecasting and stock management
• Installed a radio controlled warehouse management system as a lights out 24/7 operation

January-December 1995 – BICC Energy Cables
Business Process Re-engineering Manager

Formed a Strategic Task Force to re-engineer distribution, sales, marketing and commercial support processes for a business in sharp profit decline.
• Developed a strategic plan, which was approved by the BICC Cables Board.
• Put in place a rollout programme to restructure the Division
• Took 10% out of the cost budget during the year, with a further 20% targeted.
• Took key role in the new organisation at the end of the project.

Head of Manufacturing and Engineering Information Systems
Established a new department from scratch to manage overall development and hosting of all manufacturing applications associated with the business requirements of cable manufacture and distribution.
Recruited a team of 24 technical and Business Analysts from various businesses within the company and externally
Established SLAs between the various manufacturing Businesses and the newly created team
Installed MRP, on-line process control and management systems in five plants, each as 24/7.
Established Help Desk to support the 24/7 Operation (3 people)
Undertook corporate projects in Spain and Italy, including transfer of technology

Production Planning and Information Systems Manager

Restructured the business during a period of significant investment in plant and technology resulting in 50% reduction in the work force whilst increasing market share in a situation of reduced demand and industry over-capacity. Instigated a 'right first time' culture into the business.

Prior to 1978 I was employed by the City of Salford for five years and contributed to the establishment of a computer department for the new Salford Metropolitan District Council. This followed a period as Systems Analyst with the National Coal Board.
