Interim (Project Management/Business Analysis)

Interim (Project Management/Business Analysis)

Work Experience

Jun 2001 Current Ernst & Young London
Interim Project Manager (reporting directly at Director level)
Called in at short notice to ensure the provision of in-depth Business Analysis of Datacentre processes and functions in order to prepare detailed RFIs. Production of business cost models, leading to the identification of areas that will provide cost savings related to the outsourcing of various elements of its operational processes. Liasing with departmental managers, reporting directly to the Management Executive at director and partner level, required utmost sensitivity and diplomacy throughout the length of the project.
Having successfully returned the various streams of enquiry, within the original time constraint and on budget, it was possible to pass control back to the organisation. This resulted in being retained to provide analysis on an internal business process re-engineering initiative, concentrating specifically on cost and budget. This provided Ernst & Young with staff cost associated to the various functions within the process chain, allowing the business to clearly calculate internal budget requirements needed, and whether certain aspects could be outsourced. This area relates to JIT (Just in Time) methodology and extension of the supply chain into the business.
On the successful conclusion, again retained to provide a feasibility study of Electronic Document Management Systems, to identify options available, incorporating business requirements/fit, cost benefit analysis and strategic synergy.
As a result of this, I was able to highlight various areas of the client’s organisation that are in need of improvement, to reduce risk or provide efficiencies.
Involved in an assessment of IT Security, policy and procedures. This involved both internal and external analysis.

Feb 2001 May 2001 Sutherland Consulting for “European Transaction Bank” Frankfurt
Interim Project Manager (reporting directly at CFO level)
Provision of in-depth Business Analysis of Market Data Systems and IT Infrastructure for both the preparation of a RFT as well as that of a PSI (Production Systems Inventory). Identification and mapping of systems to the inter-departmental business processes. This has lead to the identification of additional areas that will provide cost savings and synergies.
These relate to the outsourcing of various elements and the separation of its operational processes from its parent company, via a business process re-engineering exercise. In addition to this, the existing communications infrastructure has also been within the scope of my investigations that I have been responsible for

This required a detailed data collection program, from business managers, followed by individual interviews with the departmental management to ensure that the correct data had been captured. The full capture process entailed three phases, company documentary, electronic gathering methods, followed by the personal interviews. At the end of each stage, the data collected had to be collated (to identify weaknesses or missing data), prior to initiating the next phase. The data collection process had to be conducted in both German and English, dependant on the nationality of the staff concerned. This also involved the translation of documents into either English or German.

Due to the sensitivity of the issues concerned, the utmost care and diplomacy were needed throughout the length of the project.

Nov 95 Oct 00 The Sumitomo Bank London
Information Systems Director: Market Data Systems
I held responsibility for the delivery of several mission critical projects in London for Sumitomo Bank, as well as providing internal consultancy to the rest of Europe. Providing management of complex multiple projects, research, design, planning and implementation.

From a project management perspective, I have had responsibility for the provision of a Trading Room, Business Contingency Centre and move of the European Data Centre. All of these projects required the control of diverse multi-disciplinary teams from building and allied trades to those of high-tech computing and network engineers (up to 56 personnel).

The last three major projects required that I have not just acted as project/programme manager, but also defined all requirements and hardware. In this capacity, one had to have responsibility for all cross-functional activities, so that site co-ordination could be maintained, providing routine status reports to Japan. This has required both strong communications as well as interpersonal skills, not only within a European context, but also in relationships with the Japanese culture.

I held responsibility for the Bank’s readiness for both Euro and Year 2000 preparation in their Trading and Business Contingency Centre, both of which were successful.

Responsible for contract negotiation and 3rd party vendor management as well SLAs.
Once capital budget had been agreed, I held IT budgetary control as well as extraordinary budget allocated to projects, all of which have included extensive cost analysis.
