salesman, confectionary-baker, night watchman. I consider these jobs as a sound basis for my further HR career, because it made me understand what’s going on on the shop floor.
69-72 : job-classification specialist, business unit Display Systems, Philips, NL
72-74 : training officer, business unit Display Systems, Philips, NL
74-79 : personnel manager, for a Dutch subsidiary of Simon Engineering Ltd. of Stockport,
UK, a machine factory with 350 employees, mainly skilled metal and electrical
engineers, at Boxtel, NL
79-80 : personnel manager Europe of Laura Ashley, a textile company, at their European HQ, at Helmond, NL
80-83 : social and domestic manager, Philips and LM Ericsson Joint Venture at Jeddah/Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Joint Venture has set up a modern public telephone system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was the biggest telecommunications project ever.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for international recruitment; visa management; compound maintenance; security; office services; housing; personnel department; medical services; catering and travel bureau; setting up a C&B system for expats, TCN’s and locals; setting up and maintaining good relations with government authorities in the western area of Saudi Arabia. Managing a department of 80 staff , scattered over the western area (North-South distance 1.600 km.)
83-85 : HR manager, AT&T and Philips Telecommunications Joint Venture at
Naperville, Ill., USA. This Joint Venture was a project, created for technology transfer of digital public telephone exchanges.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for facilitating 120 expatriates and their families from 4 different countries, who stayed for 2 years and 80 short term visitors, who followed courses for up to 8 months.
86-91 : HR manager Corporate and International Forwarding Depts., Philips, NL. These departments with approx. 400 staff were responsible for the international forwarding of 500.000 m3 of Philips products per annum.
Responsibilities:
As a member of the Management Team responsible for the human resources side of a transition from an internal department to an external, independent, high quality, profes-sional logistics service provider
91-92 : manager human resources, business groups Consumer Food and Petfoods, BP Nutrition at Bunnik, NL. These business groups were involved in respectively food processing and pet foods processing. They had approx. 15 plants in Europe.
Responsibilities:
As a member of both Management Teams responsible for the HR function of the various European operating companies with 8 HR managers functionally reporting to me.
93-now: Interim HR management and consultancy with the following assignments:
? 94: Personal Care Division of SmithKline Beecham Benelux and Scandinavia, Amsterdam, NL, personal care production. Replacement of HR manager with emphasis on a business process re-engineering project.
? 95-96: Indigo Europe, Maastricht, NL, sales and service of digital printing equipment and consumables for the graphical industry. Set up international HR department.
? 97-98: Baan Business Innovation/Baan All Finance, Ede, NL, development and implementation of ERP reference models/development of financial software products. Set up international HR department.
? 99: Indigo Europe, Maastricht, NL, sales and service of digital printing equipment and consumables for the graphical industry. Replace HR director and find successor
? 00: Jade Technologies Europe, Sittard, NL, producer of leadframes for the semi-conductor industry. Start change process from product- to service oriented organization.
? 00-01: Compaq Distribution Center EMEA (DCE), Gorinchem, NL, distribution of Compaq products in the EMEA region. Replace ill HR and Site Services director and participate in negotiation team to outsource the DCE.
? 01-02-02 to 30-09-02: HP/Compaq Distribution Center EMEA (DCE), Gorinchem, NL, distribution of Compaq products in the EMEA region. Consultant to the Logistics Director on Works Council and HR subjects with regard to outsourcing the logistics operations activities and to the take over of Compaq by Hewlett Packard.
? 15-09-02- 01-05-03: Avaya Netherlands, Rijswijk/Nieuwegein, NL, sells, distributes and services advanced telecom products as call-center equipment, WiFi, Voice over IP. Country HR manager for the Netherlands, replacing 2 HR managers, who left the company. Involved in restructuring, centralization and outsourcing of HR aspects as recruitment and admin/payroll and introduction of web-enabled HR tools and Manager Self Service.
? 01-10-04 – now: Foseco GmbH, Borken, Germany, produces and sells various products for the foundry industry. As a consultant to the project manager, advise the
project manager and the members of the project team on the integration of a Dutch acquisition into the European organisation.

Dutch equivalent of a BA in HR Management, 1973; various HR- and management related courses
